
Sam Simonds is an American filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York, whose work explores themes of identity, belonging, and intergenerational memory. His previous award-winning works in documentary and fiction include From a Valley of Talol (2018), Smoke of the Sea (2019), and ‘Atolan (2022), all short films.
Simonds’ visual storytelling over the past five years has centered around Amis narratives of land, histories, and lifeways. His work has screened across four continents. He co-founded the Global Alliance of Indigenous Peoples, Gender Justice, and Peace with Indigenous rights activist Binalakshmi Nepram in 2021. He is also a founding member of the software engineering co-op, 508.dev.
